Different plants are known to be native to different areas. And whether you're seeking to restore wetlands, swamps or marshes, or even to create a pond or marsh setting in your own backyard, one of the best plants to start the process is the Lizards Tail, Saururus Cernuus 5 Yr Mature Plant. This plant is common throughout the Southern and southeastern United states and can be found in swamps and marshes as well as along the edges of lakes and streams and even in moist forests, especially in their understories.

But don't be mistaken by some or many of the pictures you may see of the Lizards Tail, Saururus Cernuus 5 Yr Mature Plant. While it appears at many times to be only leaves, this leafy plant does sport flowers when it is in its mature stages each year. These flowers are typically white and the manner in which they arrange themselves on the plant is how this grassy plant got its name-the arrangement of the flowers is akin to the look of a lizard's tail. This same visual has earned the plant another nickname-the Water Dragon, called so by locals in marsh areas because of its resemblance to a dragon's head and tongue.

Lizards Tail, Saururus Cernuus 5 Yr Mature Plant can be told apart from other plants easily due to its heart shaped leaves. And when you find this plant, keep in mind that it is much more than a beautiful and necessary piece of a swamp land or marsh. It also has medicinal properties that can help to cure illnesses. The Lignan compounds found in Lizards Tail, Saururus Cernuus 5 Yr Mature Plant, along with other chemicals present in the plant help it to protect itself against crayfish and other herbivores found in the water. These same principles are helping biochemists create compounds for the treatment of tumors, although these treatments are still in the testing phases. In addition, the plant has been used over hundreds of years to treat a variety of other illnesses in general medicine. These included brewing the leaves to create a pain treatment tea for reducing back and chest pains, poultices created from the roots to treat wounds and sores on the body, and some other components of the plant are reported to have been used as an effective tranquilizer.

The plant is also suitable for the general gardener to use in his own small reflecting pool, bog garden or wetland or even as a potted plant in abnormally wet locations.

If you are considering the use of Lizards Tail, Saururus Cernuus 5 Yr Mature Plant in either a rehabilitation project or in your own garden, it's important to remember that this plant is a marsh plant and therefore will require plenty of water and sun. This is not a plant that will fare well in soils that are left to dry, or that will grow well or maintain life in too shadowy of an area.
