Maple Leaf Viburnum - It Has Something for Every One!

When we are in the woodlands, the sight of beautiful lush green tress with fascinating flowers is a treat for eyes. One of the common known trees of the woodlands is the Maple leaf viburnum, a member of the honeysuckle family. It can easily adapt to the changing trends of the weather and requires sun light only for minimal hours. It is convenient for a nursery too, to keep these in stock for a longer time. This is the reason they are visible to us every time we are in the woods.
The maple leaves of this shady plant are also attractive; it changes its color from yellow to orange to red as per the changes in the season. When the leaves fall at ripening, they are normally of dark shades of red or purple. The leaves are lobed and the number of lobes on each leaf may vary from three to seven lobes. These leaves are dense and the shoots have hair like structures on them.
People love this plant for its beautiful and attractive yellow flowers. The flowering period, begins from early spring and extend up until the end of summers. The flowers in the terminal stage are in clusters and all have the same size. The flowers grow on the tree from top to bottom. At the time of blooming season, the overlapping with white or yellow flowers gives a marvelous look to the tree. At this time it scatters, its pollen grains everywhere on the plant and near by. Unlike other flowers, the male and the female part of the flower grow in same flower. The plant shed all its flowers in the mid summer season. The flowers leave the base for the fruits to grow up. The seeds are kept in these fruits, which are dark blue in color.
The fruits of Maple leaf viburnum are very juicy and are used for making jellies. In addition, they are used for making maple syrups that are added to sweeten and flavor many dishes. The bark is also strong; the wood of this plant is used to make furniture and toys. In some areas where there is problem of water logging, people use this wood for making houses. This plant is important for environment and for us, as we also depend on environment.
