Asplenium Platyneuron is a plant that belongs to the family of polypodeaceae. It is a non-flower bearing plant. However, the native nursery owners of regions that have majority of woodlands still grow it. It is the only fern that is grown in Northern America , including Mexico and West Indies , as well as Southern Africa . A nursery attracts the public to grow plants to help maintain ecological balance. This plant generates all that is required for rich environment. The basic characteristic of this plant is its support to woodlands that are disturbed. Among the genus of ferns, it is the most adaptable plant. It can grow equally well in red clay, rocky area or even in a shady area where the soil is moist and alkaline. These plants take time to establish themselves but once grown they are longer sustainable, unless they are disturbed by the floods.

This plant with the Greek name is a native plant of the tropical lands, the areas that normally have the plants that are woody only. The asplenium platyneuron grows best in soils that are neither completely dry nor moist. It does not require direct sun and is capable of growing well in complete shade. This plant can grow up to 15 feet in height and is grown only to add greenery to an area. It does not grow with seeds, it is grown through the spores that are carried by the wind from the males to the female section, where it develops into new baby plant; this happens during the summers. Asplenium platyneuron can hybridize with the other spleenwort of the same genus.

The leaves of this plant are broad and have structures like veins on it. They are brownish red to dark purple in color, with a special luster on them. The leaves are more erect, tall and are not sterile. It has a single pinnate on which all the blades like structures of the leaf are attached. The length of leaves vary from 0.5 to 1.5 inches and the width varies from 1-2 inches. These leaves are actually fronds, which mean the leaves are divided into two parts. The fronds are stuck on a single pinnate in a specific pattern. There are minimum 15 pairs of pinnate in single pinnae and maximum of 45 pairs. It has special gloss, which attracts the viewers. The pinnate forms a quadrangular shape. Asplenium platyneuron are on the list of evergreen plants though they have a deciduous feature.

The asplenium platyneuron is a plant that is considered best for growing around the buildings. These give a beauty to otherwise dull looking spaces. They also help keep the area cool, atmosphere fresh and are good shelter for wildlife in the urban areas. Instead of putting metallic wired fences around the building, it is the best to make a boundary with asplenium platyneuron. This would help monetarily as the expenses on the fencing would go down and be beneficial from environment point of view as well.
