Even the slower' species amongst the fast growing trees grow at pleasing rates and attain impressive mature heights. One such tree is the Purple ash which grows 3-5 feet per year; 15-20 feet in three years and a mature height of 50-70 feet. The Thuja Green giant, which makes an excellent hedge and windbreaker grows 3-5 feet the first year, 15-20 feet over a three year period and finishes at a mature height of 20-40 feet. Another excellent choice for a hedge, windbreaker or privacy screen is the Leyland Cypress which also grows 3-5 feet the first year and 15-20 feet, with a mature height of 60-70 feet.

Knowing the mature height of fast growing trees will assist you in deciding where to plant your trees, so that you can avoid planting them in areas that have overhead obstructions that would interfere in their natural growth or even damage your fine trees. It is also wise to find out about the root system of your tree for a similar reason. If the tree has taproots or a strong spreading root system, planting the tree close to septic tanks or drain lines or sewage lines, or any kind of buried power lines or cables will cause damage and headaches that can be avoided if a little researching is done before planting.
